LaF – Lëtzebuergesch als Friemsprooch

Introduction to the LaF diploma

The Lëtzebuergesch als Friemsprooch (LaF) diploma is a national certificate  for candidates who have learned Lëtzebuergesch as a foreign language. The levels offered correspond to levels A2 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The examinations are based on a communicative approach and assess language skills. The diploma can be useful for professional purposes.

Procedure for the LaF diploma

The LAF diploma is independent of the language courses.

It is therefore not necessary to enrol in a Luxembourg language course beforehand. For each level, four skills are tested: oral production, written production, oral (listening) comprehension and written comprehension.

It is not necessary to register for all four skills if you are only interested in the certification of certain skills or in certain areas.

Successful completion

To successfully complete a skill, the candidate must obtain 60% of the points. (Law of 8 March 2023 establishing the Institut national des langues Luxembourg, Article 8, paragraph 4)
