CELVP Training course – Certificate in Language Teaching for Professional Purposes

The training program for obtaining the Certificate in Language Teaching for Professional Purposes (CELVP) is offered by the Institut national des langues Luxembourg (INLL).

Its aim is to train participants to teach professionally oriented language courses to adult learners in the field of adult education.

The program follows a blended learning format: 50% of the courses are offered online, asynchronously, and 50% of the courses will be face-to-face, for a total of 120 hours split into three modules.

The face-to-face courses will always take place on a Saturday, the exact dates to be communicated at a later time.

Target group of the CELVP training course

The training is open to anyone who:

  • Holds a secondary school diploma or equivalent qualification;
  • Demonstrates a C2 level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), in at least two of the following languages: Luxembourgish, French, German, and English;
  • Wishes to train or improve their skills in teaching language courses with a professional focus, in the field of adult education within municipalities or in a state-subsidized sector.

Objectives of the training course

The course aims to:

  • Understand and apply the principles of andragogy and communicative didactics for teaching professional languages;
  • Master the linguistic, sociolinguistic, and intercultural foundations of professional communication;
  • Design, plan, and assess adult learning sequences in a professional language context.

Content of the training course

The training includes three modules for a total of 120 hours (face-to-face and online), comprising:

  • Module 1: Didactics of teaching languages for professional purposes (60 hours);
  • Module 2: Professional language (30 hours);
  • Module 3: Sociolinguistics (30 hours).

Also included is a mandatory teaching practicum at the INLL (2 sessions of 4 hours each), focusing on observation and practical teaching of Luxembourgish or French as a foreign language for professional purposes.

CELVP training programme

The program includes:

  • Individual and group assignments;
  • Theoretical elements (language teaching for adults, especially in professional settings);
  • Practical exercises (applying theory through the development of course content).

Module 1 – Didactics (60 hours)

Upon completion, depending on your personal engagement, you will be able to:

  • Plan programs and lesson sequences;
  • Develop a syllabus and course sessions;
  • Create activities using various approaches and methodologies;
  • Apply various classroom management and facilitation techniques;
  • Design different types of assessments and provide feedback.

Module 2 – Professional Language (30 hours)

Upon completion, depending on your personal engagement, you will be able to:

  • Define professional language and explain its main features;
  • Apply relevant language activities and knowledge to professional contexts;
  • Use appropriate speech acts and language functions to achieve communicative goals and complete professional tasks.

Module 3 – Sociolinguistics (30 hours)

Upon completion, depending on your personal engagement, you will be able to:

  • Situate sociolinguistics within the field of teaching languages for professional purposes;
  • Integrate intercultural and mediation dimensions into adult learning practices.

Training schedule

  • The training runs over one academic year, typically from September to June.
  • 50% online for individual self-paced work using documents available on Moodle.
  • Face-to-face courses on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. and/or between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Assessment and Certification

Assessment takes place throughout the training and includes written and oral tests, as well as a task-based project.

At the end of the course, participants who score at least 60% overall across all evaluations will be awarded the Certificate in Language Teaching for Professional Purposes.

Application files must include:

  • The registration form;
  • A copy of the diploma or a recognized equivalency certificate;
  • A CV.

Annual training fee: €200.

Applications can be submitted from June 6 2025, to July 16 2025. An information session will be held on September 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the INLL-Glacis.
