  Register at the examinations office of the INL for examinations leading to the following qualifications: LaF –  DELF-DALF  –  TCF –  Goethe-Zertifikat – PET –  FCE –  CAE –  CPE –  CELI  DELE. Registration forms can be downloaded on the following page.

• What certifications can be provided by the INLL?
  • Luxembourgish:
    • Lëtzebuergesch als Friemsprooch (LaF, Levels A2, B1, B2, C1)
    • Sproochentest (Language test to obtain Luxembourg nationality, A2 speaking, B1 listening).
  • French:
    • Diplôme élémentaire de la langue française (DELF, Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1)
    • Diplôme approfondi de la langue française (DALF, Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1)
    • Test de connaissance du français (TCF, Levels A1-C2).
  • English:

• Refunds

  Under certain conditions (see form below) and in accordance with the Règlement ministériel du 21 janvier 2022 portant fixation les droits d’inscription et déterminant le calendrier des épreuves des examens et tests certifiant la compétence de communication en langues organisés par l’Institut national des langues, the INLL is allowed to refund the totality or a part of the registration costs.

• How much does the course cost per semester?

  You can find all our course fees here.

• Who can I ask for advice about registering?

  You can contact the coordinator of the department for the language you are learning. Office hours are posted on a board next to the coordinators’ room. You will need to make an appointment; you have to do this on the Internet, using your personal account.

• Is it possible to change to a different class or level?

  Paid registration (valid): Changing to another course is only possible in cases specified in article 6 of the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 27 June 2018. For further information, please contact the course administration by using the contact form.

• Is class attendance taken into account?

  Yes. Attendance is checked at each class. The records of attendance are computerised, and you may check them. You can print a certificate of attendance from your personal account via MyINL.

  All learners sign an attendance list for each lesson, provided that they are present for at least 70% of the lesson time.

• Are people who are not registered for the course (children, friends) allowed into the classroom?

  People who are not registered for the language course are not allowed into the classroom, for legal and security reasons. They could also possibly disturb the class.

• What is a skills’ assessment report?

  At the INLL, all learners taking end-of-semester tests or who have been assessed throughout the semester are entitled to a skills’ assessment report. The report gives an idea of the skills acquired at a given Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level.

• What learning materials are required?

  Your teacher will tell you at the beginning of the course what material and/or textbook you will need. You will also have to bring a pen and paper, and possibly a file or folder for photocopies and/or documents handed out in class.

• What assessments does the INLL carry out?

  In order to allow students to improve their communicative skills, there are two types of assessment that are used:

  • Formative assessment tracking learners’ progress at every stage throughout the semester, and
  • Performance assessment in the form of end-of-semester tests.
• How to register for a course?

  If you have not taken a language course at INLL in the current or previous semester, you must create a new MyINLaccount:

  1. Create your MyINL account
  2. Go to My Levels and choose a language.
  3. Receive a recommended level, which you can use to register online for a course.
  4. Enroll in a course. Online enrolment will start on 11 September 2024.

• What types of courses are available?
  • general language courses for beginners
  • general language courses for non-beginners
  • courses for specific purposes: phonetics, written production, oral production, literature, Luxembourg culture (‘Vivre la culture au Luxembourg’), etc.

  The courses offered depend on registrations and human and infrastructure resources at the INLL.

• Who is entitled to free textbooks?

  Asylum-seekers can obtain textbooks free of charge. Teachers are given a list of eligible students, and the books are ordered for them.

• Who should I contact if I have any questions about the course?

  Your teacher is the best person to contact. If you have any administrative or organisational questions, you can contact us through the contact form or contact the reception, or the administration.

• Who is eligible for the reduced rate “C”?

  Extract from Art. 4.of the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 27 June 2018 fixing the amount of registration fees for courses organised by the National Language Institute.

  By way of derogation from Article 3, the learner may pay a reduced registration fee “Tariff C” of 10 euros when registering for a course.

  Benefiting from the “Tariff C” are:

  Jobseekers with unemployment benefits, if they present an invitation issued by the Employment Promotion Agency at the time of registration;

  Recipients of the guaranteed minimum income who are available for a complementary social measure, as provided for in the amended law of 29 April 1999 creating an entitlement to a guaranteed minimum income, on presentation, at the time of registration, of a certificate issued in the name of the recipient by the National Social Work Service;

  persons recognised as being in need, on presentation of a certificate issued by the Office luxembourgeois de l’accueil et de l’intégration or the municipal social services in the name of the beneficiary, at the time of enrolment;

  Secondary school pupils if they present, at the time of enrolment, a duly substantiated letter of recommendation from the head of the school they attend;

  Signatories of an admission and integration contract, if they present their admission and integration contract at the time of enrolment.

  For the learners referred to in paragraph 2, points 1° to 4°, enrolment in a course at “Tariff C” can only be for the learning of one of the three administrative languages of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and English, except for the exceptions authorised by the Director of the Institute. For the learners referred to in paragraph 2, point 5°, enrolment in a “Tariff C” course can only be for the learning of one of the three administrative languages of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

• How many times can you apply to take the test?

  There is no limit to the number of times. However, you can only register again once the results of the previous test have been obtained.

• Exemptions

  The ‘Sproochentest’ is the only recognised certification for applying to obtain Luxembourgish nationality. Success in the test of linguistic knowledge of Luxembourgish organised by the State (prior to a civil servant taking up a post) does not exempt a candidate for naturalisation from taking the ‘Sproochentest’.

  The ‘Sproochentest’ is held at INLL Luxembourg and Belval:

• Where can I register?

  You may register in person at the INLL or by post.

• How long is the certificate valid for?

  The certificate is valid for an unlimited period of time.

• When are the next tests being held?

• How much does registration cost?

  The cost of registration, laid down by Grand-Ducal Regulation, is 75 €.

• Who can register for the Sproochentest?

  Anyone who wishes to apply for Luxembourgish nationality and is required to take the language tests.

• Refund of registration fee for no show at the ‘Sproochentest’

  A candidate who withdraws for no valid reason or does not show up for the test will not receive a refund, and will have to re-register.
