How do I go about registering for a course?
If you have not taken a language course at INL this semester or the previous one, you need to create a new account :

Who is entitled to pay the "tarif C"?
Extrait de l'Art. 4.du Règlement grand-ducal du 27 juin 2018 fixant le montant des droits d’inscription aux cours organisés
par l’Institut national des langues.
- Par dérogation à l’article 3, l’inscription à un cours peut donner lieu au paiement, par l’apprenant, d’un montant de droits d’inscription réduits « tarif C » fixé à 10 euros.
- Bénéficient du « tarif C » :
- 1° les demandeurs d’emploi indemnisés, sur présentation, au moment de l’inscription, d’une convocation établie par l’Agence pour le développement de l’Emploi ;
- 2° les bénéficiaires du revenu minimum garanti disponibles pour une mesure sociale complémentaire telle que prévue par la loi modifiée du 29 avril 1999 portant création d’un droit à un revenu minimum garanti, sur présentation, au moment de l’inscription, d’une attestation établie au nom du bénéficiaire par le Service national d’action sociale ;
- 3° les personnes reconnues nécessiteuses, sur présentation, au moment de l’inscription, d’une attestation établie au nom du bénéficiaire, par l’Office luxembourgeois de l’accueil et de l’intégration ou les offices sociaux communaux ;
- 4° les élèves de l’enseignement secondaire, sur présentation, au moment de l’inscription, d’une lettre de recommandation dûment motivée du directeur de l’établissement qu’ils fréquentent ;
- 5° les signataires d’un contrat d’accueil et d’intégration sur présentation, au moment de l’inscription, de leur contrat d’accueil et d’intégration.
3. Pour les apprenants visés au paragraphe 2, points 1° à 4°, l’inscription à un cours au « tarif C » ne peut avoir lieu que pour l’apprentissage d’une des trois langues administratives du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg et de l’anglais, à l’exception des dérogations accordées par le directeur de l’Institut. Pour les apprenants visés au paragraphe 2, point 5°, l’inscription à un cours au « tarif C » ne peut avoir lieu que pour l’apprentissage d’une des trois langues administratives du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg.
Who can register for the Sproochentest?
Anyone who wishes to apply for Luxembourgish nationality and is required to take the language tests.
Where can I register?
You may register in person at the INL or by post.
How much does registration cost?
The cost of registration, laid down by Grand-Ducal Regulation, is 75 €.

How long is the certificate valid for?
The certificate is valid for an unlimited period of time.
How many times can you apply to take the test?
There is no limit to the number of times. However, you can only register again once the results of the previous test have been obtained.
Refund of registration fee for no show at the 'Sproochentest'
A candidate who withdraws for no valid reason or does not show up for the test will not receive a refund, and will have to re-register.
Exemptions
The 'Sproochentest' is the only recognised certification for applying to obtain Luxembourgish nationality.
Success in the test of linguistic knowledge of Luxembourgish organised by the State (prior to a civil servant taking up a post) does not exempt a candidate for naturalisation from taking the 'Sproochentest'.

What learning materials are required?
The teacher will tell you at the beginning of the course what material and/or textbook you will need. You will also have to bring a pen and paper, and possibly a file or folder for photocopies and/or documents handed out in class.
Who is entitled to free textbooks?
Asylum-seekers can obtain textbooks free of charge. Teachers are given a list of eligible students, and the books are ordered for them.
Is it possible to change to a different class or level?
Paid registration (valid): Changing to another course is only possible in cases specified in article 6 of the Grand-Ducal Regulation of 27 June 2018. For further information, please contact the course administration by using the contact form.
Is class attendance taken into account?
Yes. Attendance is checked at each class. The records of attendance are computerised, and you may check them. You can print a certificate of attendance from your personal account via MyINL >.
Are people who are not registered for the course (children, friends) allowed into the classroom?
People who are not registered for the language course are not allowed into the classroom, for legal and security reasons. They could also possibly disturb the class.
Who should I contact if I have any questions about the course?
Your teacher is the best person to contact. If you have any administrative or organisational questions, you can contact reception, or the administration.
Who can I ask for advice about registering?
You can contact the coordinator of the department for the language you are learning. Office hours are posted on a board next to the coordinators' room. You will need to make an appointment; you have to do this on the Internet, using your personal account.
What is the learner's card?
At the start of the semester, each student receives a learner's card. The card gives access to the media library/resource centre, and the canteen. It must be produced upon request.
What assessments does the INL carry out?
In order to allow students to improve their communicative skills, there are two types of assessment that are used:
- Formative assessment tracking learners' progress at every stage throughout the semester, and
- Performance assessment in the form of end-of-semester tests.
What is a skills' assessment report?
At the INL, all learners taking end-of-semester tests or who have been assessed throughout the semester are entitled to a skills' assessment report. The report gives an idea of the skills acquired at a given Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level >.
What certifications can be provided by the INL?
- Luxembourgish :
- Lëtzebuergesch als Friemsprooch (LaF, Levels A2, B1, B2, C1)
- Sproochentest (Test de langue pour obtenir la nationalité luxembourgeoise, A2 expression orale, B1 compréhension orale).
- French :
- Diplôme élémentaire de la langue française (DELF, Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1)
- Diplôme approfondi de la langue française (DALF, Levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1)
- Test de connaissance du français (TCF, Levels A1-C2).
- English :
- Cambridge English Language Assessment (PET, FCE, CAE, CPE, Levels A2-C2)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS, Levels A1-C2).
- German :
- Goethe Zertifikat (Levels A2, B1, B2, C1)
- Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache (TestDaF, Levels B2 + C1).
- Spanish :
- Diplomas de Español como lengua extranjera (DELE, Levels A1-C2)
- Italian :
- Diploma della Lingua Italiana (CELI, Levels A1-C2).
- Portuguese :
- Diploma Intermédio de Português Língua Estrangeira
- Diploma Avançado de Português Língua Estrangeira (DIPLE-DAPLE, Levels A2, B1, B2, C1).
