The French Department
The French department includes 40 qualified teachers who offer French language courses continuously throughout the day, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., at almost all levels. French is the mother tongue of most of our teachers. All have studied at a French university and are qualified in teaching French as a foreign language (‘FLE’). They have many years’ experience of teaching adults. They are also required to follow regular further training sessions to supplement their qualifications.
As French is one of the Grand Duchy’s official languages and plays a key role in helping newly arrived residents integrate, our French courses are very popular, as evidenced by the growing number of students registering each year. We teach almost 5,000 students each year.
The course offer is very diverse. From beginner’s level (A1) to expert (C1), the French department offers general courses for those who wish to acquire and improve spoken and written communication skills.
At certain levels, we also offer modular courses that are designed either for students who wish to improve a particular skill such as pronunciation, conversation or writing, or for learners who are interested in business French or culture in the Grand Duchy. Special timing has also been arranged for people working in the catering sector, so that they can attend classes between 3 and 5 p.m.
